Philosophy
and Goals
The program
at St. Anthony Preschool strives to create a warm, loving community where the
children learn to be self-sufficient, solve problems, interact with peers, so
they learn positive skills of social interaction. Through active
involvement with the physical environment, games, art materials, and staff,
they gain confidence in their abilities and develop better self-esteem.
Our program's
philosophy is based on a developmental approach. We believe children learn and
develop in stages, and as teachers we need to meet each child at whatever stage
he/she is in and offer experiences that will challenge him/her to reach the next
stage. Our program offers many different experiences each week, assuring
that each child has had the chance to absorb the lesson, no matter what his or
her learning style is. Each theme is taught through books, hands-on art
experiences, music, dramatic play, language development and free play. During
play, teachers interact with the child, helping him/her with oral language
skills and problem solving.
The children attend chapel once a
week. This will provide an opportunity to share basic Catholic Christian
concepts through age-appropriate songs, prayers, and stories.
